Huawei is determined to become a worthy rival for big smartphone makers. The Asian company is constantly improving its products and we wouldn’t be surprised if it would manage to outshine Apple and Samsung in the future.

The Chinese mobile maker revealed its new AI mobile chipset, transforming the Mate 10 into a worthy rival for other brands.

It is very likely that Huawei won this battle. Mark Li, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein thinks that the Kirin 970 may be better than the upcoming iPhone chips. “The new Huawei chip can be 10 times as powerful as an average smartphone chip, and also more energy efficient, when it comes to handling AI-related functions such as image and voice recognition” he said.

The Kirin 970 details

The Kirin 970 is Huawei’s artificial intelligence chipset, and it may be the best chipset out there. It has a 12-core graphics processing unit, an octa-core central processing unit, a high-speed 1.2. Gbps Cat.18 modem, a dual-image signal and AI mobile computing architecture, all integrated into a single square centimeter that has 5.5 billion transistors. The company unveiled the new Kirin 970 AI in Berlin, at the IFA consumer electronics trade show.

“The Kirin 970 is faster, better and more secure than anything else available. This is the latest technology and it is the first chip to have a neural processing unit inside, which is 20 times faster than a central processing unit.

It is a major breakthrough for Huawei. We will enable the first use of AI technology in mobile apps, and provide consumers with a never-before-seen AI experience right in the palm of their hands,” declared the chief of Huawei’s consumer business group, Richard Yu.
