Google used to team up with third-party hardware manufacturers such as Motorola and create Nexus smartphones. However, Google decided that it doesn’t want to share the profits anymore and shut down the Nexus brand. Nexus fans were outraged at first, but Google made it up to them by launching the Pixel smartphone brand which offered “pure” Android smartphones.
With that being said, Google is planning to launch its own line of smartwatches. We should mention that this is not the first time Google tries its hand at smartwatches since it already launched a bunch of wearable devices under the Android Wear brand in partnership with other tech manufacturers.
Google Revamps Wear OS Watches
As the entire world is waiting for the Android parent to unveil its highly anticipated Pixel 3 XL, Google is working on a new lineup of Wear OS watches. Evan Blass who is a known and reputable leakster was the first one to report on this by making the following statement over Twitter:
“Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me – with high confidence – that Google’s fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch. Have a great summer!” said Evan Blass.
Three Google Watches
Previous reports have shown that Google is working on three new Wear OS watches. These devices are going to compete against Apple’s latest Watch Series 3 and therefore, we can assume they will ship with similar features.
Qualcomm is the world’s biggest hardware manufacturer when it smartphone CPUs and it recently announced that it teamed up with Google in order to create a “new wearable chipset”. This CPU is surely going to be used on Google’s upcoming smartwatches and it will help improve their battery life.
