Apparently, the new Call of Duty game will release earlier this year, in October. Rumors say that this is happening because of the release of Rockstar Games’ new game that is set to launch this year, too: Red Dead Redemption 2.
Early Release Date
According to industry experts, the company responsible for Call of Duty, Activision, has decided to release their new game to early October because they are “scared of Red Dead Redemption 2.” They believe that the company is so afraid of the upcoming hit from Rockstar that they are concerned they will lose all their sales because of the competitivity.
Traditionally, every Call of Duty game would usually release around the first week of November, however this does not seem to be the case here. This announcement came as a surprise this week.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to release on October 12th, and Red Dead Redemption 2 is going to be launched on October 26th.
Rockstar is giving Activision a run for their money
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the sequel to one of the most popular games Rockstar has ever made, thus it is expected to make billions before 2019, which is the main reason Activision would be afraid.
Activision would usually make bank from Call of Duty within a week or so of their global release. However, if the new game were to come out on the original planned date, November 9th, it would make sense they would lose immense amounts of money, since most gamers would have already spent their savings on RDR2 a week before. This is how the company came to the conclusion that they should release CoD two whole weeks before RDR2 so they can profit more.
Even though usually Call of Duty is the best-seller every year a new game of the franchise gets released, this may not be the case in 2018, due to the heavily hyped Red Dead Redemption 2.
