WhatsApp Added The “Channels” Feature In A Very Similar Style To Telegram Messenger

Telegram Messenger is increasing in popularity lately, although it rolled out in 2013. However, one of the most exciting features of this instant messaging app is the “Channel” function which allows sending messages into one direction, that is from administrators towards members of the group. Now, WhatsApp introduced its own “Channels” feature.

Telegram Messenger is a messaging application developed since 2013 by the brothers Nikolai and Pavel Durov, focused on sending and receiving text and multimedia messages, according to its official description, and managed by a non-profit organization based in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

WhatsApp added “Channels” feature to its app, “copying” this from Telegram Messenger

This week, the WhatsApp instant messaging app introduced a new feature that will allow users to create channels, essentially “copying” the most famous function of the Telegram application, according to what Telegram fans say.

In Telegram, “Channels” are messages that are sent in one direction. In other words, “Channels” are private chats managed by administrators who are the only ones who can send messages or multimedia content to the rest of the group.

The new WhatsApp “Channels” feature will ease up the subscription method to official groups, in the Telegram style

The new feature in WhatsApp will allow people to subscribe to news agency channels, companies, schools, public interest groups, or anyone else who launches its channel, for example.

“Group chats are used by many users, for example, parents and teachers in schools or non-profit organizations to receive announcements and important information. We have introduced this new feature so that administrators have better tools for these uses,” explained the WhatsApp developers.

The addition of “Channels” in WhatsApp has naturally raised some negative opinions from the Telegram users who accused Facebook (the WhatsApp’s owners) of copying this feature 1-to-1.

Nonetheless, the new function will be handy for websites to keep in touch easily with their visitors via WhatsApp.
