Vivo comes forth with innovation once again, thanks to their newly-announced devices. They are actually the first company to introduce a fingerprint sensor under the display of their smartphones! For the Vivo Apex, concept presented at MWC 2018, the added space is even bigger, and that is only a bonus to the other amazing features.
Today, a new smartphone has bee announced, and that is the Vivo V9. The latest flagship of the Chinese company provides us with an exceptional design and outstanding hardware, packed in one smartphone. In this article we will take you through its ins and outs.
It seems like Vivo is joining the current trends and adding a notch to their flagship, too. It looks like the one on the iPhone X, but just a tad smaller.
Starting with the design, we can clearly see that Vivo is not going to hold back on the current trends. And, as much as I don’t like this one, the V9 is also embracing the notch. It is in the same form as the one on the iPhone X, but a bit smaller.
The notch pushes the ratio of screen to body to 90%, 19:9, which is impressive.
The notch makes for the push of 90% screen-to-body ratio, which is pretty impressive. The resolution of 2280×1080 on the 6.3″ LCD display adds to this even further.
On the back, you can see inthe top-corner a dual-camera setup. We are sad to say that there is no fingerprint sensor under the display on this device, unlike Vivo’s other smartphones. Instead, it’s on the back side of the phone, in the top-middle. The glass back has its edges curved for better handling, and you get to pick from three different colors!
The processor chipset is the octa-core Snapdragon 626, a pretty powerful choice for a smartphone. Not the best, but it will do just fine for the most stuff. Alongside with 4GB RAM, you should not encounter any trouble with it while doing multiple activities on your phone at once.
The total internal storage is 64GB, to which you can add a MicroSD card for even better sizes. On topic of storage, the battery has an internal one of 3260mAh, so it should keep you going for a whole day, even if you’ve been playing on it for the whole time.
Moving on to the cameras, as we’ve mentioned before, there is a dual camera setup on the back of the Vivo V9. Decent pictures should result from the combination of the 16MP+5MP with a f/2.0 aperture.
The second 5MP camera is used for the known “bokeh” effect, which makes the background blurry in photos. The normal camera is 24MP with a f/2.0 aperture. Also, both cameras have enhancements on the software side which will improve your pictures automatically (e.g. lighting, errors, etc)
Out of the box, the Vivo V9 comes with Android Oreo 8.1 preinstalled, with the company’s own FunTouch OS 4.0 skin added over. The company customized it a lot and added many features to the OS, which may make it feel bloated to some users. A consequence of this is also the number of updates the smartphone will get, however you as the user can customize this in any way, since it is still Android.
Pricing and availability
Vivo V9 was announced first for India and China; more to come in April. The initial estimate price for it is $350, which is actually pretty decent for such a smartphone.
