Mercedes returns to the roots with the concept for the new Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Cabriolet. The new car sports an elegant, classic look, an homage to the original open-top Maybach that was popular decades ago.
Performance and speed
Surprisingly, the Cabriolet will be an electric car. It will have a top speed of 155 miles per hour with 780 horsepower and it will go from 0 to 60 mph in less than seconds. The battery will be placed under the floor and it will have a range of more than 200 miles after just one charge.
The Maybach will have intelligent navigation and touch controls. The car will also offer a voice-activated concierge system, a major upgrade from the classic Maybach. And this is just the beginning for Mercedes. “You can’t imagine where we will be ten years from now.” Gorden Wagener declared.
But the most impressive thing about the new Mercedes is really the design. Nearly 20 feet long, the car will be hand-finished. In the words of Dietmar Exler, the president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz, “It’s about beauty,”. An homage to the true Maybach, the car will respect the classic proportions of art deco design with an extremely long bonnet and a curved body.
The concept toys with the idea of a “yacht look”, with a wooden floor that will have inlaid aluminum underscores and shining white leather seats that create a contrast with the “nautical blue metallic,” paint. It will also feature chrome highlights.
The concept was unveiled at a classy location that matches the beauty of the car: Pebble Beach Golf Course in Carmel, Calif. And the upcoming Maybach is truly a thing of beauty. However, “upcoming” may not be the right word. The new model will become available only in 2035.
