Valve has updated its product page earlier today and it introduced its new VR headset called Index. This product page update revealed that Valve is looking to launch the new VR headset on June 15th and that pre-orders will be open starting May 1st.
With that being said, today we are going to take a more in-depth look at the details that Valve revealed in the product page for Index so that we can see what the new VR headset has to offer.
Introducing: Valve Index
The first thing that stands out in Valve’s new product page (pictured below) is that Index features two open-back earphones on each sides. The built-in earphones are going to make the VR experiences on Index much more immersive and to make things even better, the open-back design makes them seem quite comfortable to wear.
The listing also reveals that Index will support new inputs such as USB 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.2. On the downside of things, the listing states that the requirement GPU is an Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card. Therefore, Index has not been designed for everyone and only people who own powerful PCs or gaming laptops will be able to enjoy immersive VR experiences with Index.
Valve Confirms Listing
Some industry experts were saying that the product page was updated by mistake because it doesn’t include too many details about Index. Well, it looks like this is not true because Doug Lombardi who is an official spokesman for Valve made the following statement in regards to Index: “The tech info on that page, while not comprehensive, is accurate”.
Furthermore, Doug Lombardi also announced that the shipping date for Index might change. Therefore, Valve fans who are thinking about pre-ordering the VR headset on May 1st should keep an eye out for upcoming launch date changes.
