If you own the Nintendo Switch console, you’re probably wondering why the Netflix and YouTube apps haven’t reached the Switch yet. The President of Nintendo US has addressed these issues in an interview so that users can get over their doubts.
Last week, a Reddit user discovered a listing on BestBuy e-commerce stating that Netflix and YouTube apps were available for the Nintendo Switch. Although BestBuy issued a release to clarify that it was an error and that they had no reliable information about whether or when the applications would arrive at the console, the public considered that the leak indicated that both apps would not take much longer to appear.
The information arrived just hours before Nintendo’s E3 conference, and although analysts thought the company might announce the availability of Netflix and YouTube for the Switch, the event passed, and we still had no news about the applications.
Nintendo clarified why Netflix has not yet arrived on Nintendo Switch
Now, the Japanese company has wanted to explain why Netflix has not yet reached Nintendo Switch.
In an interview with Fox Business, Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo US, addressed the issue to explain to users why the popular series and streaming movie platform is not yet available for their hybrid system.
“What we said when we launched Nintendo Switch was that we wanted to have a platform for games, and that’s what we created. And that’s what allowed us in the first 12 months to be the best-selling home console in the history of video games in the United States,” explains Fils-Aime.
“We have enabled Hulu on the platform and said that other services would arrive in due time. We want to make sure we continue to push the Nintendo Switch installation base and continue to have great games for the platform. As for what’s next on the streaming side, you’re going to have to talk to those individual providers about their position and what they’re working on,” concludes the Nintendo executive.
So, from what he says, it seems clear that Netflix and Youtube will soon be coming to the Nintendo Switch, and whether they do it sooner or later will depend on the platforms themselves.
