Even though Xbox One X holds the title of being the world’s “most powerful console” ever made, Microsoft is already looking towards the future. The reason we are saying this is because Microsoft kept mentioning a next-gen console during the recent E3 event. Not just that, but a leak unveiled that Microsoft is currently developing a secret Xbox prototype dubbed as Scarlett which is believed to launch in 2020.
The Scarlet Project
Phil Spencer who is the Executive President at Microsoft Gaming has dropped hints that pointed towards a next-gen console all throughout the E3 event. However, the Executive President didn’t want to unveil any details about the device. Fortunately, Brad Sams from Thurrott saw some official Microsoft documents that confirmed Microsoft is working on a new device called Scarlet.
The previous Microsoft documents also showed that the next-gen console will be unveiled in 2020. Although, this is just Microsoft’s plan and things can change at any times. We can expect Scarlett to arrive in 2020, but we shouldn’t be disappointed if it doesn’t because Microsoft is surely going to take its time with it.
Multiple Next-Gen Consoles
“The same team that delivered unprecedented performance with Xbox One X is deep into architecting the next Xbox consoles, where we will once again deliver on our commitment to set the benchmark for console gaming,” said Phil Spencer during E3. The reason this matters is because the Xbox head said Xbox consoles, plural.
What we can take from this is that there will be multiple versions of the next-gen console such as Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X for example. We should also mention that Microsoft will surely launch different variants of the console with more powerful hardware performances and a higher price.
