The latest rumors leaked through the Chinese press show Huawei’s plans to beat Qualcomm. The result would be the SoC Kirin 1020 that would double the performance of the Huawei Kirin 970. For the time being, it has only become clear that the chip would integrate 5G connectivity and will be manufactured in 7-nanometer.
The launch of the Kirin 970 processor on models such as the Huawei Mate 10 was a significant move for the brand. An outstanding leap in performance over previous chips.
However, the Chinese are always lagging behind one of the leading players in this market, Qualcomm. In fact, the Huawei Kirin 970 is shown on the line of chips like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, but not against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, currently one of the most powerful chips on the market.
First details about the Huawei Kirin 1020
We could say that Huawei is one step behind the competition. Currently, the company is in the middle of the manufacturing process of the Huawei Kirin 980.
Rumors say that the Huawei Kirin 1020 would be the SoC that could compete with Qualcomm on a one-to-one basis.
The first figures that have transcended and that speak of the performance of this chip put it as twice as powerful as the current Kirin 970.
Huawei Kirin 1020 processor will have 5G connectivity
Huawei seems ready to launch the Kirin 1020 SoC on the market only when 5G networks become a reality, and there is a need for 5G-compatible smartphones.
Thus, everything points out that the Kirin 1020 SoC would roll out in 2019, so the Kirin 980 would be a preliminary step.
We’ll have to check out the progress of Qualcomm and Samsung by then.
Huawei will use the 7-nanometer manufacturing process to improve the efficiency and performance of the upcoming Kirin 1020 SoC, but as already indicated, we will have to wait to know the circumstances surrounding the launch of the new Huawei chip, as well as to know which model would be the one to equip it.
