Back in October 2017, the Donald Trump administration made various anti-Bitcoin statements that suggested the president could choose to ban cryptos in the near future.
It seems that this did not become a reality as you can see, we’re now in July and nothing like this happened.
Cryptos were seen as a problem
Verdict reported that this is precisely what the Trump administration said back in October:
“The FBI’s very concerned about [the dark web]. They did take down, I think, the two biggest, dark websites. This last one, Alphabay, we took down recently. They had 240,000 sites where individuals we selling, for the most part, illegal substances or guns on that site, including Fentanyl. And, they use bitcoins and other untraceable financial capabilities, and it is a big problem.”
More than that, “The [bitcoin situation] is something that is being monitored by our team – Homeland security is involved. I know it’s something that [Trump]’s keeping an eye on. And we’ll keep you posted when we have anything further on it.”
You can read the complete statement here.
If President Trump is keeping an eye on Bitcoin and considering the various hacks and lots of cybercrime events that have taken place lately, one can only wonder why hasn’t he ban crypto yet?
Rumors coming from Crypto Daily claim that he is investing in Bitcoin and therefore a ban would obviously not be in his best interest.
Donald Trump is the bran behind the whole Trump empire and he’s a businessman by nature.
It also seems somehow that the presidency is a sort of side project. It would make complete sense that he has invested in Bitcoin.
Trump hardly addresses crypto subjects
We haven’t seen Trump discussing the crypto subject too often, and this might be because he wants to limit the amount on crypto related news linked to himself just to make sure he doesn’t become involved in the market price fluctuations.
He might want to maintain the market as stable as possible to protect and enhance his own interests as well. One can only guess so far, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
